Information, Advice and Advocacy
The Children and Families Act 2014 requires every local area to have an impartial information, advice and support (IAS) service in place from September 2014.
In Swindon, a number of organisations have come together to provide this service, including:
Swindon SENDIASS, formerly Swindon Parent Partnership Service (SPPS)
Swindon Advocacy Movement (SAM)
Swindon Parents & Carers Group
The IAS will provide different levels of help, from information and signposting through to active support.
There may be occasions where parents and children (16+) disagree. However, we can still provide support to both the young person and his or her parents. We endeavour to work with the parents and young person in a way that best meets individual circumstances, whether that is through mediation or one-to-one support.
The views, opinions, ideas and suggestions of parents, carers, young people and children are of prime importance. Pivotal to Swindon’s Local Offer is the commitment to advocate for children, young people and their families in providing the most appropriate tailored support for them.
