Strategic Decision Making
How You Can Become Involved
There are many ways in which you can be involved in the strategic decision making process, whether it is joining a working group, offering feedback or making a complaint.
It is extremely important that your views and experiences are shared, acknowledged and understood, since our service teams are responsive to people’s concerns and are committed to meeting local needs. By engaging parents, carers and children in the decision making process, we can ensure a seamless system of support and provision for children and young people, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities.
Where does Strategic Decision Making Take Place?
- Swindon Borough Council; the local government body serving the Swindon area
- NHS Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is responsible for buying healthcare for Swindon and Shrivenham residents
One Swindon Partnership
All of the key organisations who provide public services in Swindon work together through the One Swindon Partnership.
Swindon’s Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) has representatives from the voluntary, community, business and public sectors, with the aim of bringing everyone together who is involved in making decisions that will affect the future wellbeing of Swindon residents.
Different Types of Consultation
Swindon Borough Council and the CCG regularly consult on service changes, which are advertised on their websites.
CCG also has a Patient and Public Involvement Forum, (PPI), which seeks to involve patients in the design of NHS processes. You can contribute in a number of ways as follows:
- Use the comment from on the CCG website
- Joint the PPI Forum
- Join your local Parent Participation Group (PPG) by speaking to anyone at your local practice
- Join the Swindon PPG Forum, which is supported by Healthwatch Swindon
Swindon Parents and Carers Advisory Group
Swindon Parents and Carers Group was established in January 2008 to enable the parents and carers of disabled children to help shape the services that affect them. The Government’s “Aiming High for Disabled Children Programme” has reinforced this need and the group is actively involved in the transformation of services.
The self-funded group supports the Local Authority and NHS Swindon in the development of services for disabled children and young people aged 0 – 25. Parent representatives participate in planning groups for disabled children and young people, consult with parents and carers, share information and obtain feedback from all stakeholders in whatever activity is being addressed.
Swindon Youth Forum
The Swindon Youth Forum was formed in April 2008 by a group of young people who wanted to change the negative perceptions of young people and work with adults in authority to create positive change across services that affect them in Swindon.
The Youth Forum meets regularly to discuss issues that young people feel are important to them and is open to all young people aged 11-19 in Swindon. It has members who act as links with all secondary schools and youth services to ensure that as many young people as possible have a voice about issues raised within the forum.
